Stage One - Tick!

I've now finished all my group dietitian appointments. Of course they finished it off with a group photo *sigh* One day I'll like photos.....

At the last session they had a former gastric bypass patient come in to answer any questions we all may have wanted to ask someone who had been-there/done-that. Honestly, it was like looking at myself. She is the same age as me, the same start weight as me, we both have one child, she was wearing a lot of purple (my fave colour) including purple glasses... like me! Anyway, she is now 4.5 months post op and has lost 45kg!!! She looked nothing like her before photo, it was amazing. I think we were all a bit star-struck actually. The dietitian was hoping to have a duodenal switch patient there too but she couldn't make it :(

Otherwise, i'm mostly sticking to my healthy plate style of eating. Sometimes I'll have a slice of toast or a biscuit as a snack when I'm peckish or just because I want to, and it hasn't made a huge impact. I've lost 4kg now (over the period of 3 weeks) and am aiming for 10kg so i'm nearly halfway. It's surprising at how easily it's coming off this time. Maybe because I'm essentially not even trying. Obviously i'm making a conscious effort to eat this way and to avoid "bad" foods, but it's not as difficult as it has been previously to make good choices.

One thing that the post-op girl said to us which I didn't realise I've been doing too is that pre-op she went through a period of "breaking up" with food, like ending a relationship with a person in a way. She would go to a restaurant or eat a specific food and be like "Ok, this is the last time i'm eating you" and then at the end of the meal she would be done and walk away. I have been doing this to an extent. I'll go to a restaurant specifically because I want to do it one last time, but I hadn't thought of it in the terms of a break up before. I will be from this point onwards, although I don't think there is many other things I want to have "one last time" now. Just a meal at the local dutch restaurant (my husband was born in Holland) and that's about it! I just don't have the desire to eat "bad" foods anymore (I don't like calling food bad. It doesn't set you up for a particularly healthy relationship with it). There are things I might miss I guess and won't be able to eat post-op, but i'm just not that into it right now and there is no point in eating for the sake of it.

So my hurdles for now, I still need to work on my water consumption. It's definitely not high enough but I'm struggling with the plastic taste in my bottles. The other is exercise but I should have that resolved on Tuesday :)
